Alice Marie Halfman

Alice Marie Mina (Morrison) Halfman, 93, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at Eagle Point Nursing Center in Clinton, Iowa. Alice was born on September 5, 1931, in Woodbine, Illinois, the daughter of James and Marie (Cobine) Morrison. She grew up in Jo Daviess County and graduated with the Hanover High School Class of 1949. On February 14, 1950, Alice married the love of her life, Laurence "Larry" Halfman, in Fulton, Illinois. Together, they shared nearly 50 years of marriage before Larry's passing on February 1, 2000. Their marriage was filled with devotion, partnership, and the joy of raising five children. Alice had a strong work ethic and a kind spirit. She served as a waitress for 23 years at Buck's Barn, worked for several years at the old Brunswick Restaurant in Savanna, and also lent her helping hands as a school janitor. Through every role, Alice carried herself with a big, gracious smile and a natural gift for making people feel welcome. Faith and community were cornerstones of Alice's life. She was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church, where she faithfully participated in the Church Circle and the Grange. She gave countless hours supporting the community, often helping prepare luncheons and lending her time and talents wherever needed. She is a past Queen of Thomson Melon Days. Her steady presence and generosity touched many lives. In her quiet moments, Alice loved sewing and reading, simple joys that brought her relaxation. Yet her greatest joy came from her family, especially spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. To her family, Alice was not only a mother and grandmother but also a teacher, encourager, and the heart of every gathering. Alice will be dearly missed by her four children, JoAnne (Brad) Kloepping of Princeton, Karen Shaffer of Thomson, Lisa (Brian) Ruhl of Colona and Debbie Halfman (Patrick March) of Smithville, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry, and her son, Jim. A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Thomson United Methodist Church with a visitation from 9:30 - 11am prior to the service at the Church. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Church.
