Alice Ann Hanson, 77, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 14, 2023, at Pelican Landing Memory Care. Alice was born on October 5, 1946, in Fargo, ND to George and Dena (Severson) Thompson. She grew up and attended grade school in West Fargo and later moved to Detroit Lakes where she attended High School.
Alice was united in marriage to Maury Hanson on September 7, 1968, when they eloped to Sisseton, SD. They built their home near Toad Lake where they had two children, Jay and Lynne.
Alice was a happy homemaker while also working various jobs including Swifts Hatchery in Frazee, cooking for local establishments, selling pull-tabs, and owning and operating the Book Nook in Detroit Lakes with her longtime friend, Janice Elijah.
In 1997, she started working in the nutritional services department at Essentia Health/St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes. She worked for 20+ years before retiring in 2020.
Alice enjoyed puzzles, reading books, traveling and spending time with family but most of all, she would never turn down a chance to play Bingo! Alice will be remembered to most as “Alley Cat”, a spunky and fun-loving person with an easy-going spirit.
Alice is survived by her children, Jay Hanson and Lynne Hanson, both Detroit Lakes; grandchildren, Samantha Hanson and Danielle Hanson, daughters of Jay; and Cameron Hanson, son of Lynne; Brothers Ron Thompson, Chuck (Linda) Thompson, both Moorhead; and Larry (Sherry) Thompson, Fargo.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Maury; her parents, George and Dena: sisters, Gayle (Carter) Viker, and Donna (Kelly) Nasset; Brother-in-law Marvin Hanson and Sister-in-law, Bert Thompson.
