Indianapolis, Indiana – Alice Jane Harris, 81, passed away peacefully after being comforted by family, on August 25, 2024. A beloved mother and wife, she will be missed by not only her family but her community.
Jane was born on January 5, 1943, and raised in Paoli, Indiana, by parents Robert and Dora (Owens) Marshall. She graduated from Paoli High School in 1961. She spent some time attending the Indianapolis School of Business but then met the love of her life, Tom Harris.
Jane worked as an assistant educator to special needs children for many, many years. More than work, it was a calling, and something that gave her immense joy and fulfillment. Known for her compassion and patience, she treated each child as if they were a part of her family, because in truth, they were.
At home, Jane loved to play the piano and ran the local special needs bowling league. All of her children knew her as the best mom ever, who supported and raised them through cub scouts into boy scouts.
In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Don, and Gary.
Jane is survived by her beloved husband Tom, sons Mark Harris and Jon Harris; brothers Bob Marshall (Kathy), sister-in-law Jane Marshall, Ron Marshall (Marcia), and Jerry Marshall (Sherry); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park (9350 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10 am – 1 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm with burial taking place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46250) after.
