Dunn: Alice Wood Johnson, 88, a cherished matriarch, was born on October 19, 1936, in Johnston County. She passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at UNC Rex, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Alice was a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother, holding many titles including granny, grandma, great grandma, and moomah, each reflecting the love and warmth she brought into her family's lives.
A Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson. Rev. Joe Brown will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery.
Throughout her life, Alice took great pride in her family, often inquiring about their day-to-day activities and well-being. She maintained close connections with her loved ones, enjoying daily conversations with several family members. Her favorite moments included engaging with her sisters and friends over the phone as well as indulging in her passion for watching soap operas and game shows.
Alice is survived by her son, Ricky Parker and his wife Ann; her daughter, Teresa Tart and her friend Michael Best; and four beloved grandchildren: Mary Overby, Cameron Rodgers and her husband Robbie, Brittani Maready and her husband Branden, and Bradney Tart and his wife Courtney. Additionally, Alice was a proud great-grandmother to Grace Overby, Everett Rodgers, Ila Maready, and Stetson Tart. She also leaves behind her dear sisters, Shirley Wheeler and Karen Wood along with her husband Eddie, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Worth E. Wood and Vonnie Allen Wood; her husband, Allen Ray Johnson; her sister, Josephine Wood Parrish; her brothers, Delmon E. Wood and Waylon B. Wood; and a grandson-in-law, Jonathan Overby.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
Alice's presence will be profoundly missed but her spirit will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
