Alice Mae Johnson

Alice Mae Johnson, 79, born June 16, 1946, to Vernon Lee and Ida Mae Jackson Artis. She transitioned peacefully to be with our Lord on January 8, 2026. Alice left behind a legacy of kindness and dedication. Alice grew up and attended school in Southampton County. She pursued a career in the medical field, which fed her drive to help others.

She was a nurturing soul, known for her unwavering love for the Lord, her family, and friends. Her family looked forward to her famous home-cooked meals, desserts, and especially her gingerbread. For years, she served as a nurse and caregiver for her family and others, embodying her belief in adding kindness to the world, guided by Ephesians 4:32 (Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you), which is what she lived by. She was a devoted member of First Pentecostal Church of Christ Holiness of Portsmouth, VA, for over 20 years. She regularly attended and enjoyed different church functions such as food drives and Christmas donations for the community. She loved gospel music, playing cards, talking on the phone, and anything that included her family.

Alice is survived by her devoted husband, Rudolph; her sons, Marshal (Jackie), Adrian (Diane), Eric (Janice), and Walter ( Sonya), along with surrogate son, Lynn; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and other loved ones.
