Alice G. Long

Alice G. (Wolsey) Long – 85, of Peabody, formerly of Lynnfield and North Reading, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Born in Malden, MA on May 9, 1940, she was the daughter of the late George and Mildred A. (Hudson) Wolsey. She was raised and attended school in North Reading. Alice was a graduate of the L.D. Batchelder School, Class of 1954, Reading High School, Class of 1958 and the Melrose/Wakefield School of Nursing, Class of 1961.

Alice worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. She was absolutely selfless and always cared for others. She was an active 70 year member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading. She especially enjoyed the Frosty's Fair. Alice was a youth sports volunteer, she enjoyed golf, skiing, traveling, her son's and grandchildren's sports and feeding family and friends on the banks of the Webhannet River.

Alice lived the Maxim: Once a nurse always a nurse. Her family was the most important part of her life.

Family members include her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph W. Long; her sons and daughters- in- law, Joseph and Julia C. Long, Stephen and Erin Long, and David and Julia Q. Long. Alice was the mother of the late Gretchen Long. Her sister, Jane McGinnis of Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Conor, Courtney, Chris, Nolan, Jocelyn, Grace and Zach Stearns, Carter and Fiona; 2 great grandchildren, Murphy and Levi.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org. Arrangements are under the direction of the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading.
