Alice Martha Maree, 96, of Reidsville, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 27, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, with Pastor Phil Surrett officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Everyone is encouraged to wear purple in her honor.
Alice was born on February 22, 1929, in San Diego, CA, to the late Lyle and Violet Crane.
Alice will be remembered as a hardworking and strong woman who cared deeply for those around her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved making people laugh, and enjoyed planting and growing flowers that brightened every space she touched. It warmed her heart to see people smile. She also loved cooking and sharing good meals with the people she loved. A devoted NASCAR fan and lifelong animal lover, she found joy in the simple things and shared that joy generously with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her son, William “Bill” Strickland, and her sisters, Peggy and Bobby.
She is survived by her daughters, Candy Sawyer (Covah), Martie Campbell (Bob), Debbie Stewart, Sandi Powers, Kathy Rowland, and Laurie Wagoner; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Special thanks to the 3rd Floor nursing staff and physicians at Annie Penn Hospital, as well as her loving caregivers—Cassidy Wheeler, Jennifer Hall, Misty Hall, and Charles Hall. The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her great-grandson, Brayden Hairston, who could always make her smile.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
