Eric Dwayne McCollum, 55, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026, at his home at Three Meadows.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Mt. Bethel Church Cemetery with Pastor Olaf van de Klashorst.
Eric was born on February 17, 1970, to the late Max and Carolyn McCollum. He lived a life that, while quiet in words, spoke loudly through love. He lived with autism and significant cognitive disabilities, and though he was nonverbal, those who knew him understood his expressions, his smiles, and the joy he found in the simple things.
He spent his early years at home, where he was lovingly cared for by his family. As a young man, he moved into a group home where dedicated caregivers became extended family. There, he built routines that brought him comfort and happiness.
Eric found great enjoyment in watching Hee Haw, listening to country music, savoring good food, and walking the halls and grounds of his home. These simple pleasures brought him peace and contentment. His familiar presence and gentle spirit were a steady part of daily life for those around him.
Though he did not speak with words, Eric communicated in his own meaningful ways. He reminded his family of the value of patience, devotion, and unconditional love. His life was a testament to the quiet impact one soul can have on many hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts, Bessie Mae Barham and Francis Elizabeth Tiller; uncles, Ronald McCollum and Billy McCollum; cousins, Michael Edmund McCollum, Marsha Harris, Wayne Barham and Amy McCollum.
Eric is survived by his older brother, Russell Max McCollum and wife, Beverly; nephews, James Russell McCollum, Joshua Lee McCollum and wife, Candace; great-nephews, Luke Hunter McCollum and Waylon Matthew McCollum; uncle, William Edmund McCollum and wife Barbara Ann; cousins, Jennifer McCollum Lilly, Thomas Ovrby McCollum, Tim Ivy McCollum, Jeffrey McCollum, Marsha Campbell, Brad McCollum and wife Ashly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 9 Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro NC 27407.
