Alice McCormick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2008.
McCORMICK Alice Anne (Nee Hoffman), 49, died Fri, July 27, 2007 in Lexington, KY after a long illness. Born in Somerville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Herbert S. and Gloria Elaine Hoffman, Hillsborough, NC. Alice grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, returning to New Jersey, she resided in Rumson and Elberon before moving to Lexington with James McCormick, her husband and companion of 23 years. She was a graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and Rutgers University where she earned a degree in journalism. Upon graduation from Rutgers, she worked as a production co-coordinator at Comcast/Channel 8 in Eatontown, NJ. After moving to Lexington she was employed in the training dept at Long John Silver’s Restaurant, Inc. At present she operated as writer, editor and publisher of her own company, Pick-2-Productions, which she formed in 1997. Her talented graphic and writing skills had earned her numerous national awards. She joined The Aviation Museum of Kentucky in 2000 as an Executive Assistant and took the job of Operations Director at the museum in 2004. Instrumental in her role and tireless in her efforts, she contributed greatly to the growth of the Aviation Museum. Although afraid to fly herself, she greatly admired the many achievements in the aviation history of Kentucky. Alice's real love, however, was for the people who had made those achievements, many of whom she had worked with during her years there. She once stated that her greatest inspiration was Skip Gumbert, the late wife of one of the Museums founders, Dr. George Gumbert. She was a member of Pax Christi Catholic Church. Alice had a strong background in volunteer work. She served as secretary and news letter editor for The Central Kentucky Computer Society. From 2004 to the present she served on the Board of Nominations of The National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, OH. Before moving to Lexington she volunteered at the Monmouth County Chapter of the Red Cross as well as serving on its Board of Directors. Surviving are her husband James R. McCormick, Lexington; mother Gloria Elaine Hoffman, Hillsborough, NC ; brothers, Stewart Hoffman, Milford FL, David Hoffman, Grants Pass, OR, Geoffrey Hoffman, Raleigh, NC, Damian Hoffman, Carrboro, NC; sisters Hilary McCain, Whiting, NJ, Joan St. Claire, Absecon, NJ, Paula Hoffman, Absecon, NJ; her favorite cousin Fred Sisser, III of Bricktown, NJ, her close friend of many years, Jane Hensler of Red Bank, NJ; along with many cherished aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, sister and brothers-in-law and friends, and of course, her four cats. Alice's love and concern for all the people whose lives she touched will be sorely missed. May 21, 2008 - Alice had written a book, but she never got the chance to finish it. I've started to publish it on TWITTER. The full version is here Jim McCormick See guest book here
