Alice T. McGovern

Alice T. McGovern, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed
away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26th, at the age of 91, in West Orange, New
Jersey. Born on April 28, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey to Antonio and Maria Pereira,
she was a symbol of strength and kindness for all who knew her.
Alice graduated from Eastside High School and pursued administrative assistant
positions with insurance and law firms. Anyone who knew Alice recognized her passion
for gardening, DIY projects, sewing, crafting, decorating the house for Christmas,
reading the Star Ledger from cover to cover, music and dancing the "Jitterbug." She
also dedicated her life to service to others through volunteering in food pantries, working
at the Nutley Thrift Shop, Hospice and Clara Maass Hospital. She dedicated her life to
her family, especially her children, Karen Mauro, Janine Carissimo, Joseph McGovern,
and Matthew McGovern, who were her greatest pride and joy. She will be remembered
for her love of her Portuguese heritage, love of all genres of music, quiet demeanor,
infectious laugh and kindness to others,
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Karen and Sal, Janine and Pete,
Joseph and Lisbeth, and Matthew and Annika, her cherished grandchildren, Dominique,
Alyssa, Alison, Michelle, Alex, Krissy, Julia, Michael, Maddie, Ngaira and Maeve and
great grandchildren Makayla, Ky, Holden, Peyton, Harlow and Caden.
A service celebrating her life will be held at Saint Mary's Church on January 31 at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Jude's Hospital
