Genevieve Tolve Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 31, 2025.
Genevieve "Gen" Tolve, 89, of Nutley, New Jersey, went to be with the Lord peacefully on December 30, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ.
Born and raised in Belleville, New Jersey, Genevieve was the beloved daughter of Emil and Rose D'Angelo (Gaccione). She grew up in a large, close-knit extended family that lived nearby, and formed lasting bonds with dozens of treasured relatives. She spent her early years between Clinton Street and Elmwood Avenue and graduated from Belleville High School in 1954.
It was at Belleville Assembly of God Church that Gen met the love of her life, Gerard Tolve. They married in 1957 and began a journey together that would span nearly seven decades, a partnership rooted in faith, laughter, and love.
In 1968, Gen and Ger built their home in Nutley, where they raised their three children and hosted countless gatherings for more than 50 years. Whether for holidays, birthdays, or simply coffee and cake, Gen enjoyed opening her home to celebrate with friends and family.
After raising her children, Gen worked at Panasonic and Montclair State University. She was also instrumental in supporting her husband's business, The Delgen Press, where she managed the social and event invitations side for many years.
An avid traveler, Gen was always ready for an adventure with Ger. Together, they traveled extensively into their 70s, including a memorable road trip to Alaska, European river cruises, and journeys to China and Egypt. Along the way, they formed lifelong friendships and enjoyed sharing stories from their travels with anyone who would listen. She also cherished time spent at the family's Pocono home, where weekends were filled with friends, family, good food, and relaxation.
Known for her quick wit, Gen delighted in making others laugh and had a gift for putting people at ease. She loved hummingbirds and the color purple, which could be found throughout her homes.
Her faith was central to her life. She loved the Lord deeply and dedicated herself to praying for others. Gen was immensely proud of her six grandchildren, all of whom were raised in Nutley, and followed their lives with enthusiasm.
Above all else, Gen loved her husband of 67 years, Gerard Tolve, and their children Gerard "Jerry" (Sherrie), Gregory (Sandy), and Joy Intindola (Brian) all of Nutley, and her grandchildren Carrie Tolve (Keri), Sarah Barnhart (Devin), Dante Intindola, Ava Intindola, Gerard "Jay" Tolve, and Natalie Tolve.
She is survived by her brothers Emil D'Angelo, Jr. (Marilyn) and David D'Angelo (Patty) both of West Caldwell, NJ, her sisters-in-law Ruth D'Angelo of Nutley, NJ, Johanna Martielli of Somerset, NJ, and Roxann Marshall (Stephen) of Plano, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, son Jerry, her parents, and brother Frank D'Angelo.
Genevieve Tolve will be remembered for her faith, her laughter, her generosity, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the family she adored.
Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown and Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street, Nutley, on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 4-8pm. Visiting will be on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 10-10:30am, a funeral service will be celebrated at 10:30am, followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.
