Alice Johnson Moore, age 86, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Louisville.
She was born on June 14, 1939 to the late Charles Pinkney (Sr.) and Mae Sumner Johnson in Rogersville, TN. Upon graduation from Rogersville High School, she attended the University of Tennessee and completed her undergraduate studies in Dietetics and Food Service Management.
She met her husband of 63 years, George, a student in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at UT, during her studies there. Alice went on to earn her Master's degree in Nutrition from Auburn University in 1963, and worked for the Tennessee and North Carolina Extension Service as a 4-H and Home Extension Agent. As a Registered Dietician, she served as Director of Dietetics at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital from 1977-1999. Alice was a consultant in therapeutic dietetics for several other hospitals, and was an instructor at Somerset Community College. She held leadership and administrative positions, and earned numerous awards in several national and state level dietetic organizations.
Alice was a former member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY, and also the First United Methodist Church in Somerset, KY. She was active and involved in several ministries and leadership committees, taught Sunday School classes, and sang in the choir in both churches. She greatly enjoyed travel and visited several countries and destinations with Friendship Force International and Louisville Friendship Force. She also loved cooking, gardening, growing flowers, and helping manage the family's farm in southern Lincoln County, KY.
Alice is survived by her sons: Roger (Anna Lou) Moore, of Eubank, KY, Keith (Rachel) Moore, of Louisville, KY, and David (fiancee Kelly Kennedy) Moore, of Ringgold, GA.; six grandchildren: Dustin (Mariah) Moore, of Eubank, KY, Dylan Reese Moore, Macey Elizabeth Moore, Blaire Elise Moore, Claire Susannah Moore, and Mia Faye Moore; her sister, Sandra J. Blevins of Maryville, TN; and three great grandchildren: Ava Grace Moore, Logan Andrew Moore, and Brice Cannon Moore. She also leaves behind a host of other family members to mourn her passing. She is preceded in death by her husband, George G. Moore; her parents, her brother, Charles P. Johnson, Jr., and one grandson, Andrew Clinton Moore.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, KY with Bro. Vola Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at Eubank Cemetery in Eubank, KY.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until time for services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Eubank Baptist Church, The Pentecostals of Louisville, or the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga.
