Alice Jean Phillips passed from this earth to be at home with our Lord on February 26,2026. She departed while at a hospital in
Plano, Texas at the age of 81. Her health had faltered over the past 5 years and diminished greatly over the past 4 months. She had many caring nurses, nurse practitioners, and a private nurse over this time and was lovingly and continuously cared for her by her devoted husband and daughter until the day she died.
She was a devoted Christian who loved God, Jesus, and certain church hymns. Her favorite hymn was highly Exalted by Praise and Harmony and always I Come to The Garden. She was baptized into Christ in Toledo, Ohio about 1969 and became a member of the Flanders Road Church of Christ. She has been a member of the Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas until she became home bound and unable to attend several years ago.
After meeting Larry in Austin, Texas while he was in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Hood, Texas in 1967, they were married on October 26,1968 in Tomball, Texas. Their only child Leslie came along in December 1971 and became a tremendous blessing immediately. They were married for 57 years at the time of her passing.
Alice was a great animal lover, including domestic and wild animals. She loved cats and horses and collected various types of ceramic owls and owl candles for many years. Horses were her favorite in spite of being stomped by one when she was a young teen but was rescued from serious injury by her big brother Dale. She wanted to become a veterinarian in those years and worked for a vet clinic just out of high school. She loved the job and even rode a bike to work but was a little weak in the knees at the sight of blood that came with the various surgeries and never pursued it. Her favorite TV program became the Incredible Dr. Pol later in life.
She was a homemaker but also worked as a front desk receptionist for many doctors, lawyers, and corporations. She loved people and took great pride in her job and made many good friends during those years. She retired early for health reasons.
She was born in
New Albany, Indiana and raised in Houston, Texas where she graduated high school in 1963. She was an enthusiastic and dedicated longtime Dallas Cowboys fan since about 1969.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clarence Eddy Sturgeon and Marion Sturgeon of Houston, Texas, along with her brother, Dale Sturgeon of Carrollton, Texas, and sister Patty Burgess of Beaumont, Texas. She is survived by her husband Larry A. Phillips, her one precious daughter, Leslie Weiss and son-in-law Craig Weiss, along with grandsons Evan, (Savannah) Lane, and Cody and loving granddaughter, Lily Jane and great granddaughter Evangeline, as well as her 5 nieces and her beloved sister-in-law, June Craun.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. We all pray that she is resting peacefully in the arms of our Savior and King.
