Colin Phillips

December 19, 1942 - March 7, 2026

Colin Stanton Phillips, age 83, of Beaufort passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at his home and with his loving family by his side.

Colin was born in Olive Hill, KY, on December 19, 1942, to Wylie Phillips and Hazel Sparks Phillips. As one of 9 children, he treasured his large family and maintained close relationships with his siblings throughout his life. He was also proud of his hometown of Olive Hill, where in 1965 he met the love of his life, Sharron Kay Moore Phillips.

A graduate of Olive Hill High School, Colin also received his bachelor's degree in biology from Morehead State University and an MBA from The West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, where he worked in public health as an airman first class.

Colin's professional career was focused on industrial development. This included serving as the director of economic development for the state of Kentucky and, later, as head of the Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Development Authority in Maysville, KY, where his efforts resulted in numerous businesses and jobs being created within the community.

However, Colin's most cherished roles were husband, father, brother, and friend. He was deeply committed to his family and well-loved by all who knew him. He brightened every interaction with his animated storytelling, sharp wit, winsome spirit, and ready smile. He also touched many with his kindness and generosity. Colin had a great love of life. Whether it was a fine meal, good book, great music, or thoughtful conversation, he lived in enjoyment and gratitude of God's gifts. Colin's faith in Christ was the foundation of his life.

Colin was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Phillips, a sister, Pamela Phillips Pitsinos, and his parents, Wylie and Hazel Phillips.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Kay Phillips, of the home; beloved sons Kyle Phillips (Jennifer) of Greensboro, NC, and Keane Phillips (Amanda) of Savannah, GA; cherished brothers and sisters, Audia Fannin (Billy), June Dulin (Wesley), Gary Phillips (Vicki), Lois Wombles (Robert), Brenda Aiken (Dale), and Michael Phillips (Leslie); as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will hold a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Colin's memory to the Kay and Colin Phillips Science Scholarship through The Citadel Foundation.
