Alice Yoko Sakamoto, 85, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, in
Santa Monica, California. Alice was born to Kiyoshi and Kinu "Yamane" Shinohara
in Hawaii. She spent her early years in Hawaii where she met and married Tadashi
"Dal" Onouye in 1957. From this union, three children were born. The family
resided in Hawaii until 1973, when they relocated to Los Angeles, California. She
and the family lived in West Los Angeles until the marriage was terminated and
she moved to Gardena, CA.
Alice worked as an administrator at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in
Westwood, CA until she retired in 1993. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling,
playing cards, gardening, and arts and crafts. She later moved to Las Vegas,
Nevada where she married her second husband, Paul Sakamoto. They lived in
Las Vegas until 2018, when they returned to Los Angeles to be closer to their
families due to health challenges.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Kiyoshi and Kinu; her husband, Paul
Sakamoto; and 9 of her siblings, Misao, June, Tetsuo, Francis, Kenji, Sachiko,
Grace, Toshiko, and Tatsumi.
She is survived by her loving family, sons, Owen (Donna Kelly) Onouye and Eric Onouye; daughter, Sandi Snyder; step-daughter, Sandy (Nolan Maehara) Sakamoto; step-son, Scott (Lori Petitti) Sakamoto; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister Betty (Buster) Kiyono of San Diego, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends.
Funeral service will be held at Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 12371
Braddock Dr., Culver City, CA 90230, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in
memory of Alice Yoko Sakamoto.
