Alice Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Home - Winchester on Mar. 20, 2026.
Alice Dianne Mayo Thompson

Alice Dianne Mayo Thompson, known lovingly as Dianne to most and as Mom, Nana, and Aunt Dianne to her family, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her most.

Dianne was born on December 7, 1940 to Kenneth W. and Alice M. Mayo, in Washington, DC. As a young girl, she attended the Arthur Murray Dancing Studio in 1952, an early reflection of the grace and joy she carried throughout her life.

She was the devoted and beloved wife of 68 years to James L. "Bud" Thompson. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering love.

Dianne is survived by her four children, listed from oldest to youngest: Rob Thompson; Alicia Clatterbuck Marlor; Ken Thompson; and Jim Thompson.

She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Annette (daughter of Rob); Josh and Jolene (children of Alicia); Chris (son of Ken); and Victoria and Tamos (children of Jim and Laura).

Her legacy continues through eight great-grandchildren: Alex, Sierra, and Gunner (children of Annette); Will, Betty, Charlee, and Levi (children of Josh); and Anja (daughter of Jolene), as well as one cherished great-great-grandchild.

Dianne was a devout Christian who loved her church and found great joy in sharing God's word. Her faith guided her life and touched all who knew her. Nothing meant more to her than her family, and she devoted herself to nurturing and supporting generations with warmth and steadfast love.

She found joy in quilting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and preserving treasured family pictures. She enjoyed doll collecting and expressing herself through art and poetry, and she was an avid reader. She loved flowers and gardening, baking and canning-especially her famous pickles and deviled eggs-and caring for her cows, Yorkies, and miniature poodles.

Dianne treasured Christmas and took great delight in decorating her tree each year, creating memories her family will hold dear. She also looked forward to her trips to North Carolina and Pennsylvania, which brought her peace and happiness.

Her life was a testament to faith, devotion, creativity, and love. She leaves behind a family rooted in the values she lived every day and a legacy that will continue for generations.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
