Alice Walton Obituary

Alice Doyle Walton
Alice Walton of Savannah, GA, formerly of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born August 4, 1932, in Collingswood, NJ to Bernice and Harry Doyle, Alice was raised in Haddonfield, NJ with two sisters and four brothers, whom she cherished dearly. Alice graduated from St. Peter's Nursing School in New Brunswick, NJ and started her career as a surgical nurse at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ. She loved working in the OR and caring for others, a gift she openly gave throughout her life. Alice gladly shared her extraordinary zest for living and brought kindness and joy to everyone she met.
The first time Alice and Dave met was at dance class during middle school, but they didn't start to date until his junior year at Dartmouth. As fate would have it, the soul mates married in 1956. Off they went to Houston, TX, where she continued her nursing career. Then to Falmouth, MA, where she had her first daughter. After Dave's Air Force tour was over, they moved to Norwalk, CT, where Alice worked in the ER at Norwalk Hospital and her second daughter arrived. She and her family moved to New Canaan in 1966. Alice created a loving home for her family, instilling it with laughter and guiding us with her strong Catholic faith. She was very active in the community, volunteering at St. Aloysius, the Young Republicans club and serving as the New Canaan High School nurse for many years. She treasured all the lifelong friends she made while living there. Thirty years later, Alice and Dave retired to their dream home in Savannah, GA, overlooking the marshes on Skidaway Island. Alice treasured the peaceful beauty and adored all her friends that share this special place.
Alice was a natural athlete. She loved golf, tennis, family ski trips and was even a nationally-ranked paddle tennis player. Alice loved music and the arts and had a special talent for knitting. She rivaled Julia Childs in the kitchen and held dear the beauty of nature particularly the grace of flowers and harmony of the birds. She really appreciated her travel adventures with family and friends. However, Long Beach Island, NJ, held a special place in her heart. She loved sitting on the beach, swimming in the ocean, sailing on the bay and enjoying a delicious shore dinner on the porch.
Alice touched us all. She was a loving wife, the best mother, grandmother and friend to so many who will miss her beautiful soul and radiant smile.
In addition to her husband, John David Walton, Alice leaves behind her two daughters Elizabeth Ann and Susan, their husbands and her grandchildren: Jesse Elizabeth Stewart, Annabelle Cunningham Catlin, John Doyle Catlin; her brother Michael Doyle of Philadelphia PA; 35 nieces and nephews and countless friends and people she touched throughout her life.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 am on April 17, 2023, at St. James The Less Catholic Church in Savannah, GA.

I´m so sorry to just be learning of Alice´s passing. She was a sweet lady and I loved seeing them at the shore. She and Dave graciously hosted me and some of my college friends when we came to visit Savannah. She is missed.
