Alice M. Wolken (Tully), 84, of Duanesburg, NY passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. She was born August 26, 1941 in Manhattan, NY to Mary and Henry McGinn.
Alice grew up in Rockaway Beach, NY, with her five siblings. Rockaway is also where she met her husband, Martin Wolken Sr. The two were married on March 20, 1960. Together they had five boys–Martin, Richard, Robert, John, and Michael. The family moved upstate to Richmondville, where they resided for 10 years, before eventually settling in Duanesburg. Alice was a devoted mother to her sons. She dedicated 57 years of her life to caring for John, who had cerebral palsy. She was an outspoken advocate for him, fighting for his access to quality education and care. Alice was a supporter of the Center for Disability Services, where John attended various programs.
Alice was a fighter and survived two battles with breast cancer. Alice loved gardening and ceramics, as well as decorating for every holiday. She had the best sense of humor and loved cracking jokes or playing pranks. Her family was the most important thing to her. She made sure her home was open and welcoming to all, whether it was for Thanksgiving dinner or a Saturday night sleepover. She loved nothing more than a house full of laughter.
Alice is predeceased by her husband, Martin Sr.; her brothers John Tully, Robert McGinn, and Larry McGinn; her sister Jean Canavan (McGinn); and two of her sons, Robert and John.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Dell (McGinn), her sons Martin (Melanie) of Gouverneur, NY, Richard (Carol) of Apple Valley, CA, and Michael (Sherri) of Delanson, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren–Ashley, Morgan, Martin, Heather, Emily, Mikayla, Joseph, Jennifer, and Eric–as well as 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Alice will be held at Bond Funeral Home (1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY) on Friday, September 5th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6th at 10:00am, also at Bond Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
