Alice Jo Young

Alice Jo Young, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, at the age of 86 surrounded by her family.

Born on September 14, 1938 in Horton, Kansas. She spent most of her life in Grain Valley, MO and graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1956. Alice married the love of her life, Billy Richard Young, on June 29, 1957. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Patricia Jo Young (Huan), Kimberly Loraine Ames (John), and William Alexander Young (Nicole). Her pride and joy were her four grandchildren-Kelsey MacKenzie Murray (Austin), Kaitlyn Nicole Ames, Hannah Elizabeth Young, and Matthew Alexander Young, with her first Great Grandbaby on the way (Murray)-who were truly the shining stars of her life.

Alice enjoyed a long career, working for many years at Fox Photo/CPI before retiring. Retirement didn't slow her down; she went on to work for Curves and Costco, always staying active and connected with others.

She had a zest for life and a love of travel, especially trips to casinos across the United States with her sister Cindy and brothers Jimmy and Gary (Kathy). Just this year, she joyfully checked off a bucket list trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey-a road trip to remember.

Alice faced her share of challenges, losing her husband Bill in 2001 and through it all, her strength, courage, and faith never wavered, sustained by the love of her children and grandchildren.

A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, Alice rarely missed a game, cheering alongside her family. She was a gracious soul who made everyone feel like family. Her door was always open, especially during the holidays, for anyone who needed a place to belong.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents, and her brothers Jerry and Gary. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones take comfort knowing she is reunited in heaven with Bill, watching over them with love.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, at Royer Funeral Home, 100 Royer Lane, Grain Valley, MO. Visitation will be from 1:00–2:00 p.m., with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m., led by Reverend Roger Horne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KU Cancer Center.
