Alida Quenomoen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNearney - Schmidt Funeral and Cremation on Mar. 26, 2026.
Alida Elizabeth Quenomoen, our devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026 at the age of 87 at St. Gertrude's Benedictine Living in Shakopee, MN.

Our mom was born in Hendricks, MN on October 19, 1938 to Peter and Christine Kruse. She graduated high school from Astoria, SD in 1956. From 1956-57 she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Hendricks Hospital, MN. In 1960 she married our father, Arnold Walter Berndt and together raised a family. At the age of 30 she graduated as an LPN and moved to Montevideo, MN. She was employed as an LPN at Luther Haven Nursing Home and also worked part-time as an x-ray technician at the Montevideo Hospital. In 1989 she married Walter Oscar Quenomoen. At the age of 52, she demonstrated her lifelong commitment to nursing and returned to college in Willmar, MN to become an RN. She graduated college in 1991, earning a remarkable achievement of 100% on the State Licensor Exam. At the age of 63, she retired from work, though her desire to serve others continued. From 2001-2004 she worked in assisted living homes. She moved to Shakopee, MN in 2006 to be closer to family.

Our mom was an amazing woman. She loved Jesus and had a strong faith in the Lord. She touched so many lives with her kindness and selfless acts of love. She had the most wonderful Christian parents who were prayer warriors and our mom followed in their footsteps. You could always call her at any time of the morning/day/night and she would be there for you and pray with you. She was a faithful servant for the Lord and touched so many lives. She was a living testimony of God's love and shared her faith all the time. She had a beautiful loving heart for family and friends and cherished every moment she was on this earth. We rejoice in the assurance that she is now with her Lord for eternity. She was truly a blessing and will be forever missed. We give thanks for the reassurance that one day we will all be reunited with her and our Lord and Savior.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Christine Kruse; her brother Edward Kruse; and husbands Arnold Berndt and Walter Quenomoen.

Those left to cherish her memories are brother Charles Kruse (Carolyn); sister-in-law Gloria Kruse (Edward); daughter Lisa O'Malley (Patrick), granddaughter Amber Wong (Allen) and great-granddaughter Eleanor, granddaughter Ashley Nevils (Christian) and great-granddaughter Amelia; son Loren Berndt (Nancy), granddaughter Allison Ternes (Sean), and great-grandsons Stanley and Owen, granddaughter Stephanie Berndt (Micah), grandson Jacob Berndt (Miranda), and great-grandsons Gavin and Archie; son Paul Berndt (Lisa), granddaughters Samantha and Emily, grandson Tyler; along with many nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at St. Gertrude's Benedictine Living and Moments Hospice for the exceptional care provided to our mom in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Moments Hospice Foundation at https://momentsfoundation.org.

Visitation Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM; followed by Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, both at Friendship Church, 17741 Fairlawn Avenue, Prior Lake, Minnesota. Family interment later in Montevideo, MN.
