High Point, NC - Alison Dyan Ricker (Spooner) passed away unexpectedly at home April 15th, 2025
She was born on July 18th, 1970 in Berlin, Vermont to Mervin & Beverly Spooner of Marshfield, Vermont
Alison grew up in Marshfield and attended school at Twinfield Union High School where she graduated as valedictorian in 1988. She went on to attend Lyndon State College, earning her B.S. in Early Childhood Education in 1992. Alison continued her education at the University of Denver, receiving her M.S. in Organizational Communications in 2016
On August 3rd, 1996 Alison married Daniel Ricker Jr. at the Ricker family farm in Tunbridge, VT. They first met while she was visiting friends at Camp Downer in Sharon, VT. That fall, they were both invited to a Halloween gathering at the mutual friends' home, which started a wonderful life together thereafter.
Alison moved to South Royalton, VT to work at Magic Mountain Children's Center. In 2005, she excepted a position at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, working as a medical school administrator. In 2012 became a program administrator of faculty development. After receiving her Master's degree in 2016, she was promoted to Director of Clinical Curriculum for the 3rd & 4th year medical students a position she held until 2023.
After selling their home in 2018, Alison & her husband had been talking of moving south & did so in the fall of 2023. Her last position at Dartmouth, doing remotely, was a Medical school education coordinator with the Advanced Ambulatory & Emergency Medicine at the time of her passing.
Alison had many close friends & acquaintance from her four years at Lyndon State and in her 20 years at Dartmouth, both locally and nationally. She lived in Sharon, VT from 1996 – 2018. In 2000, she earned her E.M.T. certification and joined the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, being one of the first of two women to join the department as a first responder. She was also a member of the South Royalton Rescue Squad and helped to obtain the first AED in town for the Sharon school. Alison served as the secretary for the Sharon Fire Department and was treasure for the Sharon horseshoe league, which her husband played on. She played on her sister-in-laws women's softball team and participated in rubber ball tournaments in Tunbridge and other locations.
Alison enjoyed travelling to Arizona in the spring , to watch MLB spring training games, NASCAR races, hockey games & going to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum to visit the hummingbird's habitat. Hummingbirds and cardinals were her favorite birds to watch and feed from her deck. She was part of a motorcycle group, the Upper Valley H.O.G. chapter, and traveled most summers to different locations for lunch & ice cream stops along the way. Recently she join the Foothills Riding Group in King, NC to explore new areas of adventure.
Alison leaves behind many dear friends & family, who cared for her more than she could have imagined. She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Ricker Jr. of High Point, NC; her father, Mervin Spooner of Montpelier, VT; her brother, David Spooner & companion Vickie of Marshfield, VT; father-in-law, Daniel Ricker Sr. of Tunbridge, VT; her mother-in-law, Nancy Ricker of Lebanon NH; sister-in-law; Barbie & Kendall Maynard of Northfield Falls, VT, and Robyn & Fred Payton of Tunbridge, VT; her goddaughter, Kennedy Moore of Reading, VT; and many nieces & nephews.
Alison was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Spooner (Hood), and her grandparents, Arthur & Nellie Spooner, and Earle & Alice Laflam.
A memorial service will be held, May 31st at the Sharon, VT FD Station. Time will be posted at a later date. Donations can be made in her memory to the Sharon, VT Volunteer Fire Department or the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tempe, AZ.
