Allan Edward Meagher, Beloved Father, Public Servant, and Proud Son of
Irving, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2025, at Baylor Irving Hospital. Born on June 9,1962, in Dallas to Jerry Allan Meagher and Bettye Meagher Thomes, Allan called Irving home from beginning to end-and gave everything he had to the city he loved.
A proud graduate of MacArthur High School and Northwood University, Allan was a true Irving original-charming, grounded, and endlessly devoted to his community. He began his professional journey working in his family's movie theater business before embarking on a three-decade-long career with UPS, where he retired as an Operations Manager after 26 years.
But Allan's life was never defined by titles or job descriptions. It was defined by love of Community & Family.
Allan was a pillar of Irving civic life, serving on the City Council for 16 years, the Planning and Zoning Commission, the DFW Airport Board, and on the boards of organizations such as Irving Cares, the Salvation Army, and the Irving Heritage Society. He was perhaps most proud that the Irving Fire Fighters and Police Association endorsed him in every endeavor, a testament to the trust and admiration he earned from those who protect and serve. Wherever decisions were being made that would shape the city's future, Allan was there-not for credit, but out of a deep, unwavering belief in Irving's promise.
He was known for his charisma-quick with a story, kind with his words, and genuine in his interest in others. Allan had a way of making people feel seen and welcome. He valued relationships and never missed a chance to bring people together, whether at a backyard barbecue, on the road with friends, or cheering on his favorite teams. He had a special place in his heart for young people who needed guidance or support, and over the years, many found not only a mentor in Allan but a second home.
Of all his accomplishments, Allan was the most proud of his family. He is survived by his loving children: Carson Meagher, Cole Meagher and wife Sierra, Taylor Gilbert and wife Sara, and by his grandchildren, Bristol, Teagan, and Hudson, who brought him endless joy and kept his spirit young. He is also remembered with love by Kelly Meagher, with whom he shared many years of family life, and by Brooke Pearson, whom he helped raise and always considered one of his own. He leaves behind his devoted mother, Bettye Meagher Thomes; and his siblings, Jenice Cutler (Trey), Michelle Harlow (Steve), Lorelai Taylor (Ray), Jeremiah Meagher, Crystal Quinn (Derek) Mark Meagher (Veronica Salgado), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who were more like family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Meagher; his stepfather, Richard Thomes; his brothers, Craig, and Bruce Thomes; and his sister, Jennifer Thomes.
Irving has lost one of its greatest champions-a man who loved his city not in theory, but in action. Allan Meagher did not just believe in community. He built it.
Memorial donations may be made in Allan's honor to Irving Cares, an organization close to his heart and aligned with the way he lived his life-by lifting others up.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 4th at 11am at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church, 1615 W. Airport Freeway,
Irving, Texas 75062.
