Allan Smelzter Obituary

Mr. Allan Joseph Smeltzer, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved husband of Mary M. (Garcia) Smeltzer, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Sunday evening, March 29, 2026. He was 86 years old.
Allan was a US Air Force veteran, entering the military on August 17, 1959 and received his Honorable Discharge from Dow Air Force Base on August 16, 1963. Mr. Smeltzer attained the rank of Airman, 2nd Class. In civilian life, Mr. Smeltzer worked as a Stationary Steam Engineer for Kraft Foods.
Allan and Mary enjoyed motorcycling around the U.S. and Canada. They spent many years traveling with friends to different parts of the country and meeting people from the different areas and learning the history of the areas. Allan also enjoyed telling many stories about growing up in Ballardvale where he was born and still lived on the same street. He was a true Ballardvalian, spending his entire life there. Both he and Mary were the former Wardens for the Burns Reservation witch he loved taking care of and remembered playing in the area as a child.
His niece, Colette wrote a letter to him from college on his 75th birthday to honor his birthday. The 15 things that were her favorite memories were:
1. Riding on your bike around town, I thought I was so cool
2. Staying up late to watch old cartoons when Evan and I slept over
3. Pillow Fights the morning of sleepover
4. Going for walks on the AVIS land.
5. Getting pizza just so we could watch the trains go by at the Ballardvale Train Station
6. Climbing the apple trees in your backyard
7. When you came to skating lesson and ppretended to skate on the side with us
8. When you cam to pick me up from school, pretending to be a clown, nose and all
9. When you tried to order pizza to church because it was taking too long
10. Getting a card from you that contained 10 old guy rules
11. All the inventive ways you have messed with my cards over the years
12. The perfect carrot souffle you used to make me every holiday
13. Hearing all of your stories from when you were a kid
14. Hearing you sheering in the crowd and always saying 'Thats my uncle!'
15. Always seeing your face in the audience of my dance recitals
Besides his beloved wife, Mary, Allan is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Jeffery A. and his wife Cherie Smeltzer of Salem, New Hampshire, grandchildren; Rebecca (Skyler) Smeltzer Kramer of Long Beach, California and Parker (Zoe) Smeltzer of Fox of Studio City, California and brother-in-law; Rosario Pinieri of Derry, New Hampshire. Allan was also the brother of the late Gail Pinieri.
