Robert Burbank Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 31, 2026.
Robert "Bob" F. Burbank, 80, longtime resident of Andover, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Bob was born November 5, 1945, son of the late Theodore A. Burbank and Alice (McDougall) Burbank. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie (Regan) Burbank on June 27, 2015.

Bob grew up in Pembroke, MA, and attended Silver Lake High School. After graduating, Bob joined the U.S Navy, where he became a plank owner of the USS America on the original crew, active during the Vietnam War. When he completed his service, he met the love of his life Marie, and raised their family in Andover. He worked as a salesman with multiple companies.

Dedicated to public service, Bob donated countless hours to his town on multiple Boards and committees, and eventually leading the town for 10 years as First Selectman. He had a natural knack for town politics and took great pride in helping guide the Town of Andover out of financial distress. He was also especially proud of his contribution to the construction of the covered bridge on Route 316.

Bob enjoyed anywhere on the water, especially his family vacation home on Frye Island, Maine. He was happiest on his boat, giving anyone who visited a tour of Sebago Lake and then sitting on the beach enjoying a good cocktail and laughs with friends and family. Bob also enjoyed vacationing with his wife, usually a Caribbean cruise. He was a fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, UConn and whatever sports his children or grandchildren were playing. He will be truly missed by all.

Bob is survived by his four children and their spouses, Robert (Julie) Burbank, Jr. of Bloomfield, Michael (Carrie) Burbank of South Carolina, Allen Burbank of Andover, and Noelle (Paul) Egan of Tolland: eight grandchildren, Robert III, William, Vincent and Ellie Burbank, Logan Burbank, Alexander, Benjamin and Cayden Egan, a brother James Burbank of Plymouth, MA, and many loved nieces and nephews. Along with both parents and his wife Marie, he was also predeceased by his brother Theodore Burbank, and his dear friend Richard Clarke.

Relatives and friends are invited on Tuesday, April 7th from 4-7 p.m. for visitation at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester. Bob's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8th at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Family, 185 Church St., Amston, CT, followed with burial in Townsend Cemetery, Andover.
