Allen Leroy Adkins, born on June 7, 1951, in Fremont, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home in El Mirage on November 14, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for the outdoors.
Allen's career spanned various roles, including truck driver, auto mechanic, and refuse and recyclable material collector. He was known for his Marine personality, characterized by strength, resilience, and a commitment to excellence in all his endeavors. A proud veteran who served two years in the United States Marine Corps, Allen completed a tour in Vietnam as a Freight Transport Specialist (MOS 3121) and was honored with several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Marksmanship Badge, culminating in an honorable discharge.
Education was a significant aspect of Allen's formative years, as he attended high school before embarking on a diverse career path. Throughout his life, Allen had the privilege of living in various states, including Colorado, Arizona, California, and Indiana. His adventures across these places enriched his appreciation for nature, leading him to enjoy activities such as fishing, boating, off-road four-wheeling, and restoring classic cars. His love for classic old-school country western music was a defining element of his leisure time, often enjoyed while savoring his favorite dish, tamales.
Allen's proudest accomplishments included not only his military service but also the cherished moments spent with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheryl Adkins, and his children, Allen Jr. (Teri), Gerald, Alena, Joshua, Timmothy, Joseph, Shiann, Krystal, and Thomas. He took great joy in the company of his grandchildren: Kaidence, Chase, Grace, Madison, Travis, Austin, Avery, Katelyn, Baily, Athena, David, Brooklyn, Adrian, Trinity, Christopher, Adam Jr., Nathan, and Adalyn, as well as his great-grandchild Samual. Allen is also mourned by his brothers and sisters, Daniel, Albert, James, Mathew, Raymond, Gina, and William, along with his lifelong friend, Mr. Gerald Turner.
Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Lenora Geraldine McLallen, and his father, Albert Leroy Adkins.
A visitation in honor of Allen Leroy Adkins will be held on November 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Avenidas Funeral Chapel, located at 522 E Western Ave, Avondale, AZ 85323. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, remembered for his unwavering spirit and the joy he brought to his family and friends.
