Allen Bell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 27, 2024.
Allen Thomas Bell Sr. ("Al"), 70, passed away on Sept. 22nd, 2024. Allen was a family man. A loving husband of 47 years to Patricia "Trisha" (Stewart) Bell, proud father of James Bell and Allen Jr. "AJ", his wife Rebekah and cherished "Papa" to Zoey Bell

Born in Natick, MA, Allen was the eldest son of the late Gardner and Bertie (McCartney) Bell, brother to Michael and their late sister Terri Bell.

Allen's happiest memories from his childhood were of playing hockey with the Natick Comets. He was Captain of the PeeWee and Bantam hockey teams and made several trips to Prince Edward Island to live with, and play against Canadian teams during these years. In 9th grade Allen and his family moved to Hyannis where he would attend Barnstable High School, letter in football and hockey, and was an integral member of the 1972/73 Red Raiders hockey team when they won their first ever Mass. State Championship. Their banner still hangs today at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Later in life Allen coached youth hockey for Barnstable and raised his son AJ to play the game. Their lifelong passion for hockey allowed them to play together on the same team in adult league games at the old Kennedy rink.

A long distance truck driver by trade, Al logged millions of miles over the road through every state from coast to coast. He later worked for Cape Cod Express, delivering libations and smiles to the people of Nantucket. An everyday comedian, Al was always quick with a joke, funny comment or quip. Spending time with him made anything fun, including hard work.

Ever faithful, Al was the most selfless and thoughtful husband Patricia could ask for. Forty-eight years ago, they met through a friend. Almost immediately, Al knew Trisha was the love of his life and they married 2 years later. Best friends, they did everything together. A marriage most would envy.

Allen was also a world class father. Like his father before him, he sacrificed so much for his 2 children. He loved his sons unconditionally. Through good times and bad, successes and setbacks, his unwavering love and support always paved a way forward. Together, Allen and his son James loved caring for the family dogs George, Bruin, and Harley, as well as the beautiful fish tank they so diligently maintained.

Allen and Trisha began retirement by moving to their home in Homosassa, Florida, and started a new chapter of their lives. The son of a carpenter, Al took great pleasure designing and building decks and structures from the teachings of his father. Selflessly, he volunteered to build a wheelchair ramp for his good friend and neighbor in a time of need. Al loved God, family, his friends, and this country.

From his teenage years forward, Al loved motorcycles. He especially loved riding his Harley Davidson and made several epic trips across the U.S. on his bike. He once completed a 2,400 mile solo trek in just 3 days to attend AJ and Rebekah's wedding in Oregon. He attended annual motorcycle rallies all across the U.S., including Sturgis, Laconia, and Daytona. And he always rode, never trailered.

Allen was grounded in his faith. Since leaving Cape Cod, he continued to tune in every Sunday to watch Pastor Josh preach at Harbor Church in Hyannis. The world has lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, and a great American.

In lieu of flowers, the Bell family asks donations be made to Al's favorite house of worship: Harbor Church, 957 Falmouth Road, Hyannis, MA.
