Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with a Rosary beginning at 4:45 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.
Allen John Berte was born May 23, 1953, in Algona; the son of Adam and Dorothy (Fuhrmann) Berte. He grew up in Algona and graduated from Garrigan High School in 1971.
Following high school, Allen continued his education at Iowa State University where he received his degree in Geology. Allen began his career as a geologist in the offices of downtown Denver. After a few years, Allen shifted his career and joined Coors Brewery, where he dedicated nine years of service. After Coors, he started hail dent repair and fixed many cars in Colorado, Estherville, and Algona. He bought property next to their home in Golden, CO and rented it to Farmer's Insurance, Native Nursery, and various food burrito trailers.
On January of 1983, he was united in marriage to Connie (Jensen) in St. Bernadette Church in Lakewood, CO. They settled in Golden, CO, where they raised their two children, Adam and Candice. The family enjoyed skiing and hiking in the Colorado mountains, Vail, Breckenridge, and Keystone.
In 2000, Allen returned to his roots in Algona, where he began a new chapter of his life as a farmer. He farmed in Algona for 24 years, along with his wife, Connie. Farming was not just a profession for Allen; it was his life. Despite his busy schedule, Allen made many friends and enjoyed spending time with them in his shed on his farm. Later, he found joy in golfing. He enjoyed joining his wife Connie on vacations in New Mexico and Colorado during the winter months.
Allen was with Connie on vacation when he suffered several serious medical issues and died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Aztec, New Mexico. He had just turned 71.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Golden, CO; son, Adam (Morgan) Berte of Aurora, CO; granddaughter, Ellie Candice Berte; brother, Ron Berte of Flower Mound, TX; sister-in-law, Michelle Berte of Algona; nieces and nephews, Larry (Rachel) Berte, Michael (Jennifer) Berte; Courtney (fiancé, Zaccary Mann) Berte, Dylan Berte; and many cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Candice Berte; brothers, Larry and William "Bill" Berte; and sister-in-law, Sheryl Berte.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to a charity or your choice, or to the Bishop Garrigan Schools.
