Margret E. Elbert

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Oakcrest Funeral Services.

Margret Elaine Elbert was born September 19, 1947, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Nina (Muir) Bierstedt. She grew up in the Lone Rock area and attended school in Fenton. Margret graduated from the Sentral High School in 1965, and she went on to attend Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She later returned to the Algona area and began working at Snap-On Tools.

On July 22, 1967, Margret was united in marriage to Richard Elbert at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage they remained in Algona where they worked and enjoyed being active in their CB Club. Margret later also worked at Charlie's Supper Club, the Chrome Corner and the North Iowa Drag Strip in Humboldt.

Margret enjoyed spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren, as well as shopping, sewing and bowling.

Margret died Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. She was 78.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Elbert of Algona; three daughters, Dianne (John) Starrett of Clear Lake; Michelle (Chad) Johnson of Fort Dodge; Dana (James) Barhite of Ackley; grandchildren, Amanda (Thomas) Tebben, Branden Starrett; Sierra Leith, Serena (Hunter) Egesdal; Baylee and Elizabeth Johnson; Veronica and Gracen Barhite and April Izer-Schlemme and two great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Florian Tebben. Also surviving are siblings, Kathryn (Roger) Kramer of Curlew; Jeannine Mokrzycki of Medina, OH; Teresa (Rich) Blocker of Algona; Julie Schmidt of Lone Rock; Beth (Mark) Olson of Fenton and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard, Jr.; sister, Cheryl Hellman and a brother, Wayne Bierstedt.
