Margaret Jolynn “Jo” Elbert, 61, of Anderson, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on November 4, 2025. She was born on July 13, 1964, in Anderson to Joseph and Linda Parisi.
Jo was known for her joyful spirit, compassionate heart, and the way she poured herself into caring for others. She devoted much of her time to rescuing and fostering dogs, volunteering at local animal shelters, walking dogs, caring for cats, and often helping financially when needed. She had a deep compassion for animals and was a selfless soul.
Family was everything to Jo. She cherished every moment spent with her grandson, Armin—whether they were outside playing, on the floor playing with cars, drawing with sidewalk chalk, watching movies, or sharing old cartoons from her children’s childhood. She had the best laugh, endless compassion, and just the right touch of Italian sass when needed.
Jo enjoyed golfing and fishing with her late husband, Marty, tending to her garden and flowers, and spending time with her beloved puppies. Jo’s nurturing nature extended far beyond her home—she was the heart of her family, strived to keep everyone connected, and was always there to help whenever someone was struggling.
She deeply loved God and lived out her faith through her actions. Her relationship with Him was personal and passionate—she sought to reach others by showing His love in everything she did. Jo faithfully attended Fifth Street United Methodist Church with her mother, Linda, on Sundays. Her greatest hope was that her children would instill that same faith, value, and love in their hearts and onto her grandson.
For 42 years, Jo worked at Mr. Penguin/Jim’s Formal Wear, where she built lasting friendships and touched many lives through her kindness and warmth.
Jo is survived by her son, Brandon (Alondra) Chism; daughter, Danielle Chism; beloved grandson, Armin Chism; mother, Linda Parisi; and sisters, Kim (Rob) Smith and Lori Shaw. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews—Rachel, Kyle, Courtney, Becca, and Josh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marty Elbert; father, Joseph Parisi; and nephew, Bryan Smith.
Legacy is honored to care for Jo and her family during this difficult time. Jo’s legacy of love, faith, laughter, and generosity will continue to live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, November 13th at 5th Street Methodist Church,1124 W 5th St, Anderson, IN 46016 A hour of calling at 10am-11am, service at 11am with church lunch to follow right afterwards.
