Allen Coats Sr., age 68 of Dayton, Ohio went home to be with our heavenly father on February 17, 2025. He was born September 27, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio son of the late Albert Coats Jr. and Marylee Taylor.
Allen was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone. He was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country. Allen retired from General Motors after 25 years of dedicated service. He then went to work at the Dayton VA for over 10 years in various positions. He enjoyed listening to Funk Music, reading, and spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan, with his team being the Pittsburg Steelers. Allen is going to be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Clifford Franklin Sr., great grandmother, Pearl Franklin; grandparents, Albert and Catherine Coats, Mary Bates Hicks and John Hicks Sr., Uncle John Hicks Jr.; son, Martenis Taylor; great uncles, Clifford Franklin Jr. and Harold Coats; brothers, Eric D. Coats and Willie Frank Smith; sisters, Mary Coats, Shirlene Smith, Tina Coats Hall, and Carol D. Smith-Wafer; great niece, Kaneisha Johnson; great nephews, Jaykwan D. Hardy, Elgin Wilson, Darius Hall Jr., and Christian Taylor; cousins, Gwen Franklin and Patrice Franklin.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Allen (Natasha) Coats Jr., Lutreasa Coats (Anwan Pounds), Twanesha Taylor, and Nitia Taylor ; grandchildren, Naekwon Wilson, Lasias Hicks, Allen and Charlie Coats, Carol Nixon, James Jeffery Jr., Jaylen Jeffery, and Janyla Jeffery; great grandson, Silas Hicks; brothers, Charles Coats, William Coats, Quinn Wilkes, Shawn Coats, and Edward Smith; sisters, Wilena Camp, Catherine "Kitty" Coats, Rosalee Smith, and Princess "Tonya" Coats; aunt, Janie May Taylor; host of nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends, Lutricia Horton and Patricia Shrivers; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 10:30am-11:30am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30am at the Funeral Home. Burial Services will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
