Allen Warren Gomoll, a cherished family man, esteemed pharmacologist, and passionate advocate for the arts, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Newburgh, Indiana. Born on July 10, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herbert and Sarah Gomoll, Allen's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering zest for knowledge and adventure.
Allen's academic pursuits culminated in a doctorate degree in Pharmacology from the University of Illinois, a testament to his intellect and determination. His professional career spanned over four decades at Bristol Myers Squibb, where he made significant contributions to cardiovascular research. His expertise and commitment to his field earned him membership in the American College of Cardiology. Allen also shared his knowledge and passion for science as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Evansville, where he was affectionately known as "tough as nails" by his students.
Beyond his professional achievements, Allen's life was enriched by a profound love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Elaine Kirkpatrick Gomoll, with whom he shared over 59 years of marriage and a deep, enduring love. Together, they raised their children, mourning the loss of their son, Gary Allen Gomoll, and celebrating the life of their daughter, Lisa Gomoll Garrett. Allen's legacy continued through his grandchildren, Colton Kirkpatrick Gomoll Garrett (Rebeca), Garra Swayne (Will), and Ashlyn Gomell, and his great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Ryker, Briar, and Blake, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Allen's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid music listener, he was a longtime supporter of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and found great pleasure in the arts and theatre. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of fishing, bowling, and baseball. A talented photographer, he captured life's moments with precision and care. His commitment to health was reflected in his regular exercise routine, which included weightlifting and cycling.
Known for his culinary skills, Allen was the baker of the family, delighting in the creation of sweets and candies to satisfy his notorious sweet tooth. He and his wife, Elaine, made a perfect pair, with her love of cooking complementing his baking expertise. Together, they shared many adventures, including cherished times at their family cabin in Wisconsin.
Allen's fun-loving and adventurous spirit never waned, and he remained a go-getter until his final days. A true patriot, he loved his country deeply, enjoying political discussions and watching presidential addresses with keen interest.
Allen Warren Gomoll lived a life of purpose, love, and joy. His memory will be held dear by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. He will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched.
There will be a celebration of life for Allen on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10am, with a funeral service beginning at 12pm.
