Allen Hoover Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Keck-Coleman Chapel on Feb. 24, 2026.
Allen C. Hoover, age 72, a lifelong resident of St. Johns, died at his home on February 23, 2026.

Allen was born on July 26, 1953, in St. Johns, the son of Charles and Sharon (Baker) Hoover. He was a 1972 graduate of St. Johns High School.

Allen worked for many years as a plumber with Norris Plumbing and Heating in Clare. On October 5, 1996, he married Elizabeth "Beth" Walker. Together they shared over twenty-nine years of marriage.

Allen had a big heart and was known for his genuine, full-armed hugs. He loved the outdoors and felt most at peace in the quiet of country life. Sitting in his garage, enjoying what he called his "million-dollar view," was time well spent. He enjoyed woodworking, shooting guns, and even making homemade fireworks. He appreciated the simple things in life and never pretended to be anything other than himself. Being a little crazy at times gave him leeway for his actions-and those who loved him wouldn't have had it any other way.

More than anything, Allen loved his children and grandchildren. Every Wednesday he phoned his kids, a steady and meaningful routine. Time spent with family meant the most to him, whether it was working with his hands, sharing stories, or simply enjoying a quiet day together.

In addition to Beth, his beloved wife, he leaves his sons, Ryan Riojas, Rob (Jillian) Hoover, Chris (LaNae) Hoover, and daughter, Carrie (Randy) Hoover; grandchildren, Alana, Reanna, Zachary, Keili, Zoey, Malikhi, Jayce, Jaxon, Ayla, and Julius; brother-in-law, Vern (Jeanette) Walker; sister-in-law, Susan (Walter) Grace; as well as his nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Tina and Rita; and his uncle, Tom Hoover, who was like a brother to him.

A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Friday, February 27, at 4:00 p.m., with Andy Croel officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials are encouraged in his name to the Fowler Conservation Club.
