Kenneth Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Keck-Coleman Chapel on Mar. 13, 2026.
Kenneth Donald Harris Jr. passed away peacefully in Saint Johns on March 12th, 2026. He was born in Williamston, Michigan on November 11th, 1938. He attended Williamston public schools where he met Johonna Kay Boyd. They were married upon their graduation at the Methodist Church in Williamston, on May 29th, 1957. They lived for a time in Lansing near family but outgrew their small house and decided to buy a farm in the country. St Johns was a wonderful place to raise their four children: Tamra, Andrea, Kenneth III, and Nathan. Ken enjoyed watching his kids in sporting and racing events and was also involved with 4H for many years.

Ken worked for General Motors as a tool and die maker and eventually became a tooling engineer. He retired in 1999 to spend more time with his family. Always an engineer; Ken retained his love of process and procedure throughout his life, continually looking for new ways to solve problems. Ken enjoyed having projects to keep him occupied at home and in the homes of his family and friends. He liked to keep busy and have projects lined up.

Ken and Johonna traveled frequently in their retirement including to Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, Puerto Vallarta, Scotland, and Ireland. In 1993 they went to Mexico and bought their first timeshare. Over the next 30 years Ken and Johonna enjoyed entertaining family and friends in Cancun and Playa del Carmen making wonderful memories.

He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Donald Harris Sr., his mother Ruth Grace (Niemann) Harris, and wife Johonna Kay (Boyd) Harris; they were married for 67 years. Ken is survived by his children, Tammy (Ted) Ashley of St Johns, MI, Andrea Harris of Grand Junction, CO, Kenneth (Chris) Harris III of Palmetto, FL, Dana Swanson of St Johns, MI and Nathan (Tammy) Harris of New Hudson, MI; Grandchildren: Bekah (Ashley) D'Haene, Abby (Phil) Smith, Chelsea (Trevor) Rasmussen, Austin Ashley, Jordan Harris, Lauren Harris, Kenneth Harris IV, Casey Compeau, Lacey (Ken Galbavi) Swanson, Shawn (Dawn) Harris, Katelynn Harris, Alyssa Harris; Great Grandchildren: Madeline D'Haene, Hannah D'Haene, Aubrey Smith, Emmie Smith, Ashlynn Rasmussen, Karson Swanson, Kaelyn Jo Galbavi, Kensley Galbavi. Ken is also survived by his brothers Keith Harris and Kirk (Cherie) Harris and many more extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St Johns, MI on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 1:30PM. Friends may visit the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Pastor Andy Croel officiating. A luncheon will follow. Ken's final resting place will be at South Bingham Cemetery, 1324 W Taft Road, St Johns MI.

Ken was always looking to help family and friends. His humor, guidance and family dedication will be missed by all those that knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Michigan American Legion at MyLegion.org or donate to the charity of your choice.
