Allison Hassell Obituary

Allison Hassell

December 15, 1944 - November 3, 2025

Allison Street Ward Hassell, born in Asheville, NC on December 15, 1944 passed peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy A. Ward and Mellie Hollowell Ward of Asheville.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca H O'Donnell, cousins Cindy Ward Crane and Jennifer Crane of Sonoma County, Calif., and her childhood friend of 75 years, Betsy Wood Winston.

Allison, or Babs as she was endearingly called by her daughter and her friends, was one-of-a-kind. She was quick with a smile and a "darlin'", or a subtle side-eye if something wasn't to her liking. She could be at once proper and traditional or spirited and care-free.

Her early loves were horseback riding and trips to Pawleys Island, SC. She had a curious nature and thirst for knowledge in part satisfied by traveling near and far. She was passionate about animals, nature, and the environment; she loved art, architecture, and historical preservation.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice; and in the meantime feed the birds, smile at a stranger, and find the beauty in the small everyday things.
