Alma Marie Wine Landes, 98, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Bridgewater Retirement Community.
She was born on October 9, 1927, in Staunton, to the late Emmett Charles and Effie Estella Cline Wine.
In 1957, Alma and her husband, Kenneth, founded the Augusta County Credit Union. Together they nurtured and grew the institution for thirty-five years, until their retirement in 1992. As Bookkeeper and Treasurer, Alma was known for her dedication and steady leadership. The credit union was more than a job - it was a dream she built alongside her husband and faithfully supported throughout her life.
At home, Alma’s heart shone just as brightly. She was deeply committed to her faith and carried that devotion into everything she did. She cherished family above all else, having grown up in a home where time together was treasured.
Her kitchen was the gathering place, especially on Sundays. Alma loved cooking and made it her joy to prepare family dinners where everyone had a seat at the table.
She was passionate about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, taking pride in each of them.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Kenneth Landes and his wife, Joy, and Timothy Charles Landes and his wife, Patti; her daughter, Emily Marie Vayvada; her grandchildren, Chris Landes and Patrick Landes and his fiancé, Alana, Kristin Shifflett and her husband, Colton, and Elizabeth Kervatt and her husband, Wes; her great-granddaughter, Teagan Shifflett; her bonus grandchildren, Ben Nobles and his wife, Jess, Max Nobles and his wife, Megan; and five other bonus great-grandchildren, Noah Westenberger, Zaden, Quinn, Knox, and Landry Nobles.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Kenneth Landes; her brothers, Ralph Emmett Wine, Stanley Malcolm Wine, and Tracy David Wine; and her sisters, Leona Beatrice Wine Link, Audrey Wine Bosserman, and Leda Ruth Wine.
All are welcome to attend a luncheon at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Pleasant View Lutheran Church in Staunton.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM at Pleasant View Lutheran Church with Pastor David Bacon officiating.
