Born in McConnellsburg, PA, on July 8, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Warren W. and Velma F. (Butterbaugh) Barton. Alma worked at the University of Delaware's Student Health Services, retiring after 15 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Alma leaves behind her two devoted daughters, Ivy Benson (Bruce) and Holly Jackson; along with her treasured granddaughters, Ashley Tyczkowski (Ed) and Erica Carey (Patrick); as well as six great-grandchildren, Andrew (Kaitlyn), Amber, Elena, Madison, Alexandra, and Vivienne Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Tassell; son, James Taylor Tassell; and grandson, Andrew John Benson.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 noon until 2 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. Services and inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
