Alma Deniece (Johnson) Whigham was born June 2, 1968 to Willie Albert and Fannie Bell Johnson. She made her peaceful transition to eternal life surrounded by her daughters on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in
Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She spent her childhood and teen years growing up in
Gary, Indiana before returning to
Clayton, Alabama, where she graduated as valedictorian of Class of 1986 from Clayton High School. She matriculated at Wallace Community College and Troy University.
Known to many as the "family doctor" she assisted family and friends with many health and medical concerns. Her daughters often called before a doctor's appointment to know what the doctor would say and call afterwards to break everything down. If there was any discrepancy, the girls went with what "momma said." Alma had over 30 years experience working as a nurse in various specialties and enjoyed most being a travel nurse later in her career.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Albert and Fannie Bell Johnson; sister, Rhonda "Polly" Johnson; and brother, Samuel "Tata" Rumph.
She will be forever remembered by her daughters: LaKeshia Whigham, Tuscaloosa, AL; Nikia Whigham (Jason) Winston,
Columbia, South Carolina; and Chelsea Walker, Eufaula, AL; sisters: Cindra Johnson, Huntsville, AL; and Eunice (Kent) McKinnes,
Clayton, AL; brothers: Willie "Poke" Rumph, Leotis "Toby" Johson, both
Clayton, AL; and Terry (Angela) Gray,
Tampa, Florida. She also leaves to cherish memories to Milton Whigham and Lamar Walker, who gave her her greatest gifts - her three girls. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Last but not least, Alma was a proud "grandmother to be" as she anticipated the pending birth of her first two grandchildren this fall, and wanted to be called "Big Momma."
