James Carroll Chandler

James Carroll Chandler passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in Niceville, Florida, surrounded by his loving wife of 72 years, Jean Chandler, and his son, Robin Chandler. He was 94.

James was born on March 15, 1931, in Montgomery, Alabama, and grew up in the countryside around Pike Road. His early years were filled with the freedom and hard work of rural life-pitching hay, milking cows, and learning the value of a strong work ethic.

During the Korean War, James proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Richard B. Anderson as a signalman aboard the signal bridge. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Jean, whom he married in 1954.

After his military service, James earned a degree in Mathematics from Troy University and began his lifelong career at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. Over 35 years, he made a lasting impact as a mathematician before retiring and fully embracing a well-earned life of joy and fulfillment.

Retirement never slowed James down. His gardens were magnificent, his golf game respectable, and his love for fishing was unwavering. He remained active for many years, playing softball and volleyball well into his 70s. A devoted reader, James also cherished time spent with family.

A man of deep faith, James was a devout Christian who taught Sunday School for over 30 years, served as a deacon, and gave generously of his time and spirit to his church and community. He truly lived by the words of John 13:34-35: "Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another."

James is survived by his beloved wife Jean Chandler; his son, Robin Chandler; his grandchildren, Rachel and Chris Chandler; and his daughter-in-law, Connie Chandler. His legacy of kindness, faith, and love will live on in all who knew him.
