Alonzo Armwood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paye Memorial Funeral & Cremation Care on Jan. 2, 2026.
Known as Tyrone to his family and friends with whom he grew up and as Alonzo to the friends and coworkers he met later in life, Alonzo Tyrone Armwood, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, brother, and friend, entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of his family and the memories of a well-lived life.
Born on January 22, 1964, in Lumberton, North Carolina, Tyrone was the beloved son of the late Charles and Mary Armwood. He was raised with strong values rooted in faith, family, and perseverance. Tyrone graduated from Westover High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1982, where he began shaping the discipline and leadership that would define his life.
In October of 1982, Tyrone proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served honorably and with distinction, achieving the rank of E-5 Sergeant. His specialty was Petroleum Supply, a role that required precision, responsibility, and dedication-qualities Alonzo embodied daily throughout his military career. He carried those same qualities into his 30-year career as a chemical operator at various petrochemical companies.
Tyrone was a man who truly loved life. He had a deep passion for traveling and enjoyed capturing and sharing pictures on Facebook of his journeys, adventures, and life experiences. He found joy in exploring new places, creating lasting memories, and staying connected with family and friends through those shared moments. A devoted sports fan, Tyrone proudly supported the Philadelphia Eagles and was a longtime UNC basketball fan, cheering faithfully for his teams.
Above all else, Tyrone cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, uncle, and a dependable brother whose presence brought strength and comfort to those around him. His wisdom, bold humor, loyalty, and steady guidance will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Tyrone leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 25 years, Jackie Armwood, and his children, Alonzo Armwood, Jr. (Alexis) and Terrence Armwood (Keonna).
He is also survived by his siblings: Joe Samuel Ratliff (Doris), Bill Armwood (Fran), Ella Washington, Eric Armwood, Kevin Armwood (Beverly), Virginia Armwood, and Keith Armwood: and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces nephews and grandchildren whom he adored deeply along with a circle of extended family and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Though Tyrone has transitioned from this earthly life, his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication lives on. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
