Alonzo Bailey Obituary

Alonzo Bailey, Jr. WADMALAW ISLAND - Entered into eternal rest on the morning of November 6, 2025, Alonzo Francis Bailey, Jr., affectionately known as "Dink", husband of Patsy Bailey. The relatives and friends are invited to attend a service and reception at Rockville Presbyterian Church, 2479 Sea Island Yacht Club Road, Rockville, SC, on November 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Dink Bailey was born November 13, 1941, in Wadmalaw Island, SC, to the late Alonzo Francis Bailey, Sr. and Eleanor Butler Bailey. Dink began his career as a mechanic with Way's Garage. He expanded his mechanic knowledge on boats while working at Botany Bay Marina. Dink decided to transition into his true passion, sitework. Dink owned and operated Dink's Repair until he retired. During this time, Dink cleared lots and maintained many roads on Wadmalaw for clients that later became his friends. Dink was a respected icon, a patriarch of Wadmalaw Island, having lived on his beloved island his entire life except for a tour in Japan with the United States Navy. After hitchhiking his way across country from California back to Wadmalaw, he met and married his wife, Patsy, on July 3, 1965. Dink was a giving man. Helping without hesitation, Dink was loved by many and idolized by a few as well. Dink instilled those same qualities in his son, Paul Bailey, who predeceased him. Dink was well known, well-liked and respected by all that met him. He will be missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Patsy Bailey; his sister, Sarah "Sally" Whaley; and his brother, Hardee "Buddy" Bailey. Dink was predeceased by his son, Paul Bailey; and his sister, Eleanor "Midge" Davis. Memorials can be made to Rockville Presbyterian Church, 2479 Sea Island Yacht Club Road, Rockville, SC.

Patsy, I am so deeply sorry at your loss. I remember when I first met Dink. I went to go play with Buddy. He was going into his bedroom. I asked who was that? He said my brother. I was shocked because I didn´t know Buddy had a brother. He had just gotten out of the Navy. We were late for your wedding because Steve got lost! Got to the reception. When you brought Paul home from the hospital and I held him. I was scared to death! Babysitting him when he was a baby. Riding when Dink would take us in his dune buggy all over Wadmalaw island. We were covered in mud. I loved it! The annual Rockville Regatta and the Shrimp Boil. We would always chat. Such memories of Rockville. I´m crying writing this. Sending my love and prayers. I´m always here if you need me. May God Bless and your faith help ease your pain.

Patsy,
You of all people know me & Dinks history. We were like brothers!
I didn't get to see him much in later years. He hated to see me show up cause I would always tell him to get a knee replacement or some other health suggestion.
I will miss him. Very much!
Please know that I'll be there for you

I´m so sorry to hear this. Dink was an island icon, working on many parts of Wadmalaw, including Bugby. My lasting image is Dink sitting at the corner of the SIYC bar, socializing and keeping an eye on everyone.
My condolences to Patsy, Sally, family and friends.
