Alonzo "Al" Hernandez Sr, 82 of Houston passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

He served as a long time barber for the second ward community for over 55 years at the Milby barber shop on Canal street. Al loved talking shop with his many customers and friends, he loved his oldies music, especially Elvis, the Beatles, and most recently, Selena. He would never turn down a good boned chicken sandwich, chicken salad, or yams, and you can't forget his empanadas. Back in the day he was not only a weight lifter in his make shift garage gym, but he coached so many in their weight lifting journeys as well. He loved people coming over to lift weights, to just hang out, and most would stay over for dinner. His wife becoming famous for her bbq chicken, rice and roni, and ranch style beans.

He loved so much and was loved by so many, but the true love of his life was his wife, Eloise. They married at a young age and were married for 56 years until her passing in 2019. Her passing was so devastating for us all, but he maintained his strength and faith that he would be with her again someday. In their wonderful marriage they raised two amazing sons, Alonzo Jr, and Stephen who have continued their legacy along with 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his father Alfonso Hernandez Sr, his mother, Angela Helen Hernandez, his wife, Eloise Hernandez, his brother Arthur "Turi" Hernandez.

He is survived by his sister Susie, brother Alfonso Jr and wife, Gloria, sister Adriana and husband Roy, son, Alonzo Jr and wife Trisha, son Stephen and wife Janet. Grandchildren, Christine, Lorenzo, Jacob, Tiffany, Ashley, Gino, Christian, Briana, Erick, Olivia, Megan, and Kristopher. Great grandchildren, Paris, Mia, Lexi, Leyla, Zoe, Noah Michael, Noah Erick, Abby, Eli, Leo, and baby Elena. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

His celebration of life will be held at the Morales funeral home on Saturday, September 27th, from 4-8pm, with a memorial service beginning at 6pm.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all his customers and friends, the staff of heart to heart hospice house, and an extra special thank you for Denise Johnson.
