Alonzo Peterson

Alonzo "Pete" Peterson, affectionately known as "Bunny," transitioned to be home with the Lord on November 11, 2025, surrounded by his children.
Alonzo was born on July 30, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Isadora Peterson-Grant and the late James Charles Jr. He later relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where he was raised in an area known as Jewtown. Alonzo graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1973 and began his first job at a paper company factory in North Philadelphia.
At the age of five, Alonzo discovered his love and passion for singing Gospel music, along with some R&B. In his twenties, he became the lead singer of several gospel groups, including The Gospel Angels, The Duggins Singers, and The Holy Cross Gospel Singers. In the early 2000s, Alonzo moved down south, where he raised his youngest daughter Ebony, worked as a custodian, and cared for his mother. In 2016, he decided to relocate back home to Philadelphia to be closer to his family.
In 2024, Alonzo rededicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Upper Room Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Carlton Aiken.
Alonzo enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, and spending time with his family. He was a true gentleman who loved to compliment beautiful women. He was honored to be invited by several churches to sing for different occasions. He also cherished spending time with his cousins Reggie, Glen ("Tweety Bird"), Frank, and Ruby ("Scooby Doo"), and their siblings. And we can't forget his love for the "EAGLES".
He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Peterson, his mother Isadora Peterson-Grant, and his father James Charles Jr.
Alonzo leaves behind six children: Angelina Gonzalez (Orlando), Lamar Burnett (Tanya), Carolyn T Grier, Maurice Mosley (Doris), Marie Edmonds (Emanuel), and Ebony Peterson; as well as Kenya Johnson, whom he raised as his own. He is also survived by four siblings: Vincent Grant, Marceline Eubanks (Roland), Barbara Grant, and Dennis Grant; Eighteen grandchildren: Jazmin, Kendra, Radames, Brandon, Marquise (Asia), Donte, Isaiah, Martice, Amber, La'Shawn, Ajee', Elijah, Emanuel Jr., Angelina, Joshua, Sariyah, Gabriell, and Ean; Eighteen great-grandchildren: Serenity, Isabella, Mila, Zuri, Angelina, Isaiah Jr., Sean Jr., Kenzley, Johnathan, Journee, Quinieca, Trishten, Kaylani, Jasai, Aries, Arey, Azaire, and Ivana; One special friend Gertrude and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. We all know, Alonzo was everyone's favorite person!
