Alta Louise Garrels Dockendorff, 102, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Danville, died October 6, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. She was born September 11, 1923, in rural Mt. Pleasant, to Roy and Edna Scarff Garrels. On June 2, 1943, she married Glenn Edward Dockendorff at the Mt. Union Methodist Church; he died February 22, 2018.
Mrs. Dockendorff was a 1941 graduate of Yarmouth High School and then worked at the New London Creamery. Initially, when Glenn joined the army, Alta joined him in Paris, Texas, where he trained, and she worked in the laundry on the base. Once Glenn was shipped overseas, Alta worked for the Glove Factory in New London. Later, she worked as a homemaker; worked as a drug picker at McKesson Robbins; was employed at the Farm Service Elevator in Danville; and kept the books for Glenn's Stanley Steemer business. She was a member of the Danville Methodist Church. After her husband's death, she moved to assisted living in Omaha, Nebraska.
She is survived by two daughters; Peggy (Charles) Overley of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kay (David) Wulf of Tulsa Oklahoma; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ellen Runnells; two brothers, Roger and Ronald Garrels; and two sisters, Erma Mertens and Blanche Allen.
The funeral service for Alta Louise Dockendorff will be October 20, 2:00pm at Danville Methodist Church with Rev. Jacob Yochum officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Jaggar Cemetery, Danville, immediately following the service.
A memorial has been established for the Danville Methodist Church.
