Alta Marie (Bowen) MacQueston, 85, of Keene, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family after a brief period of declining health on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
She was born a daughter to the late Mary (Aldrich) and Walter Bowen on August 2, 1937, in Gilford, NH. She was educated locally at West Halifax School in West Halifax, Vermont class of 1955.
In 1977 in Roxbury, NH. Alta exchanged vows with Clyde A. MacQueston. They had been married for 33 years when Clyde passed on December 10, 2010.
Alta was a long-time employee of People's Linen Service where she was the head of the Uniform Department. Prior to working at Peoples Linen, she was a long-time foster mother to many children.
Alta had a great sense of humor and loved to play jokes on people. She also enjoyed taking walks, picking dandelions in early spring with her sister Alice, vacationing in Maine and listening to country music such as George Strait, George Jones and Conway Twitty, whom she named her 16-year-old cat after.
Ms. MacQueston is survived by her children, Sandra Sanburg of Keene, Deborah Garland of Keene, Dawne Williams of Swanzey and Jesse MacQueston of Swanzey. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Bibiane Breaux of Louisiana and Steven MacQueston of Louisiana as well as her siblings Russell Bowen, Anita Lake and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Arlen, Alice Mason, Margery Bolio and Freda Goodell, her brother Leslie and her stepchild Kevin MacQueston.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. Burial will take place directly after in the family lot in Monadnock View Cemetery, 499 Park Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. Services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
