Alta Shammo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by La Paloma Funeral Services East - Las Vegas on Jul. 4, 2023.
Here lies the body of Alta Fae who spent her whole life gathering friends and relatives and their stories. I was born in the small town of St. Johns, Arizona to two loving parents, Carl Lorenzo "Ren" and his wife Calla Alta Plumb. I lived there with two loving Grandmothers, Alice LeSueur Crosby and Alta Curtis Plumb, many aunts and uncles and lots of cousins to love me.
Two weeks after I graduated from High School, 1st day of June 1952, our family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and we have lived there ever since. I was the oldest living child and had two brothers, Carl James and Donald Oliver and two sisters Alta Rae and LaRenna, with two brothers dying at birth. All of the above are deceased.
We pioneered some desert land and built our own home and have lived there, finding many lifelong friends. In 1958, while square dancing I met the love of my life, a man of the Lords own choosing, Ronald Carl Shammo, who was in the Air Force and from Ohio. We were married 23 May 1959 and later sealed in the St. George, Utah Temple. After this we started gathering many more relatives and friends and their stories.
We had six children: Cindy Lou, Ronda Sue, Tina Marie, Kathryn Fae and 8 years later Carlee Ann and finally a son, when I was 40 years old, Terry Crosby Shammo. All are wonderful children and their spouses have given me many grandchildren and great grandchildren to love and even three great-great grandchildren.
I worked for ten years or so at Western Union and retired to be a full time Mom. My siblings all lived near and our children all grew up together. I have not had any great callings or accomplishments in my life except being a genealogy teacher and a Mother to many besides my own children.
I have enjoyed going to the temple and working as a volunteer in the office there for 19 years. It is still my great joy gathering relatives and friends in our home has always been open to whoever comes by as my parents and my aunts homes were before me.

I believe Atla Fae had the incredible calling to be a daughter, a sister, a friend, a mother, a wife, and a grandmother. From what the Waldrons shared with me, she embraced each of these roles with love, warmth, and unwavering dedication.

These callings are not just important, but more, than any fancy job or fleeting fame.

She took up raising her babies to be men and women. It's in the depth of these relationships where true meaning and lasting legacies reside.

Even though I haven't had the privilege of knowing the family for long, I feel grateful to have spent time with the Shammo- Waldron family. Alta Fae was an absolute treasure, radiating beauty inside and out and from ear to ear as she smiled. I grew rather fond of her delightful sense of humor which never failed to brighten the room, and her words were always filled with genuine sweetness.

Ronda,
I loved your mother. She was always kind to me and was so practical and down to earth. She had such a great influence on my life because I stayed so often at your home. I still use her recipes from the old ward cookbook. She was amazingly generous with her time in helping sew bridesmaid dresses and making my wedding veil. She was a great soul and I know your family will miss her dearly. I hope you can find peace in the wonderful life she led. Love you, Marie
