Alton Glenn James of Tahoka, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on May 20, 1950, he grew up in Tahoka and went to school in Wilson, Alton's roots in this community ran deep. He supported his children as they grew up, attending all their activities and sporting event. Alton took immense pride in watching his kids and grandkids, where his encouragement could always be felt from the sidelines.
Alton devoted his life to his family and his career as a heavy equipment haul driver for ASCO, a position he embraced until retiring. Alton often spoke of the peace he found while traveling the highways, a testament to his love for the open road. When he was home, he considered the "best day" was spending time in a pasture with the horses, taking time to go camping, or be at the beach. Alton’s legacy will be remembered not only through his family but also through his contributions to the community and his deep connection to Grace Community Church, where he was a proud member.
Alton is survived by his wife, Ange James whom he married on September 23, 1983; sister, Donna Whitley, and her husband Arthur of Tahoka; children, Brian James of O'Donnell, Melissa McCleskey and her husband Aaron of Tahoka, Britt James of Norman, Oklahoma, Cameron Childress and his wife Kim of Lubbock, and Amanda Stidham and her husband Courtney of O'Donnell; daughter-in-law, Brooke James of O'Donnell; grandchildren, Skyler Williams and husband Brandon, Blake McCleskey and wife Madie, Kale James, Emilee Decker and husband Caelan, Hannah Strange and husband Krese, Haden Childress and wife Hannah, Logan James, Hadlee Childress and fiance Reagan Wells, Everett Stidham, Karrigan James, Bek McCleskey, and Kasen James; and great-grandchildren, Hendrix Decker, Teddy Decker, Truett Strange, Beckham Childress, Remington Wells, and Evie J McCleskey.
