Alton Smith, 79 of Abilene, VA passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.
His passing is the loss of a caring, strong and gentle man. Alton was born on June 3, 1946 to Arvel and Lola Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Bertis and Curtis Smith.
Alton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hettie Smith, his four children; Edna Randolph (Mike), Christopher Smith, William Smith (April), John Smith, his six grandchildren; Cosima Smith, Timara Smith, Tiffany Smith, Cameron Smith, Faith Smith and Elyssa Smith, three brothers, Freeman Smith, Edwin Smith (Lucy), John Smith (Catherine) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Shorter Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Trinity Memorial Gardens at 11:00AM Friday, October 3, 2025.
