Alvin Dozier was born on July 17, 1951 to the late Vera Dozier. He transitioned peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024 at home.
Alvin attended Newark Public Schools and enlisted in the US Marines in 1969. He served faithfully during his tenure and was honorably discharged.
Alvin accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at a young age and was baptized by the late Rev. George L. Ray of the Union Baptist Church, Newark, New Jersey.
Alvin married the late Valarie Rice in 1971 and to this union three sons were born; Michael, Devin and Alvin Jr. He also was the father of Augustus Wilson, born prior to this marriage yet raised with his other children.
Alvin's employment history included University Hospital, Newark, NJ. In addition, he worked several odd jobs as a handyman for many years.
Known for his comedic demeanor, Alvin was the jokester at family gatherings and enjoyed being the center of attention.
Alvin is survived by his four sons, Augustus Wilson, Michael, Devin and Alvin Dozier Jr.; daughter-in-law, Rasheena Burse-Dozier; his grandchildren, Mikel Dozier, Talib Dozier, Tahir Dozier, Rakieer Jennings, Michaiyah Dozier, Ashmere Wilson, Tabitha Wilson, Nitaya Dozier, Jordan Dozier, Quayan Tullis and Ja'Quannah Dozier; and four great grandsons. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sharon Dozier-Shipman and his twin Alice Dozier-Corbin; two dear nieces, Tamala Dozier-Dunn and Maisha Dozier-Williams; and cousins. Alvin was also the loving companion of Ms. Robin Robinson and was devoted to her two children, Corey and Courtney.
Alvin was predeceased by his loving wife Valerie; his dear mother Vera Dozier and grandson Saeed Dozier.
