Alvin Richard Hager 85, of Ethel, West Virginia, departed from this life on August 26, 2025 while at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born on December 3, 1939 to the late Stollie and Rena Hager.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon, Paul, Willis, and Roy; sisters, Geneva, Char, Jo Ann, and Sylvia.
He was widowed by wife, Ann Shirley Scaggs Hager, wife, Stella Hager, and wife, Lesa Vaggitt Hager.
He worked for A. T. Massey Coal Company for 58 years before retirement.
He loved listening to country music, watching old westerns, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his children, David “Richie” (Sherri) Hager, Jody Alvin Hager, Scotty (Taunya) Hager; his grandchildren, Jonathan Hager and his significant other April Queen, Frances Daniels and her husband Denzil Daniels, Austin Nicholas, Dustin Doss, Nicholas McNeely, Kaleb McNeely and Cameron Hager; great grandchildren, Michael Hopson, Raylyn Hager, Kirsten Daniels, Alyssa Daniels, Everly Rose McNeely, Jaxon Hager, and Alexander Scott Hager; great-great granddaughter, Harlin Brooke Musick; his sister, Faye Ughetti and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
In honoring his wishes, funeral services will be Officiated by Pastor John Godby at Akers-James Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 1 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Hager, Denzil Daniels, Dustin Doss, Nicholas McNeely, Kaleb McNeely, and Cameron Hager.
