Alvin Jenkins Hairston, 78, of Indianapolis departed this life on December 20, 2023. He was born on June 12, 1945, in Martinsville, VA. He graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne, IN, and he obtained a degree from Indiana University in Fort Wayne. He retired from Navistar (International Harvester) after 37 years of service. Alvin (Al) truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always cared deeply for those who crossed paths with him, regardless of if they were a family member, a friend, or an acquaintance. He loved to watch his grandson play sports. Al also had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh..
Along with his wife Ellen, he is survived by his daughter Kim Lippe, grandson Luke Lippe, siblings Kenneth Hairston, Geraldine Heath, Connie Lambert, and Carolyn Moore.
His parents were Alice P. Hairston Moore and George W. Hairston. He was also preceded in death by his loving brother Lenard Hairston.
Funeral services will be held at Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 27, 2023, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., followed by the funeral at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
